Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy
Effective October 14, 2026.
Supper Owl keeps unsafe dishes out of your family's dinner plan. To do that, it asks what each person at your table won't eat, and some of those answers, food allergies and medical diets, say something about a person's health. Washington's My Health My Data Act and Nevada's consumer health data law call this "consumer health data" and ask us to explain, separately, how we handle it. This page applies to everyone who uses Supper Owl, not only residents of those states. It adds to our Privacy Policy, which covers everything else.
What consumer health data we collect
- Food allergies you select for a person in your family (for example peanuts, milk, shellfish).
- Diets you select for a person (for example gluten-free or vegetarian), whether chosen for medical, religious or personal reasons. We cannot tell the reason, so we treat all of them the same way.
- Ingredients and dishes a person avoids. These are usually preferences ("no mushrooms"), but we handle them under this policy too.
Each of these is attached to a person's profile in your family: a name or nickname you chose (optional), a role (adult or child), a birth year and an avatar color. We do not infer health information from anything else, such as what you cook or rate.
Where it comes from
Only from you. An adult in the family enters it on the Family tab or during setup, for themselves and for the children and other adults in the family. The app does not pull it from Apple Health, your contacts or any other source, and does not ask children for it.
Why we collect it
For one purpose: so the dinners we suggest, the week we plan and the grocery list we build fit everyone at your table. A dish that contains or may contain a listed allergen is kept out of the plan for that person and marked when it comes up. We do not use this data for anything else: not for usage statistics, not for marketing, not for research and not to train any model.
How we collect it
We collect it only to provide the service you asked for. When you enter an allergy or diet, you see what it is for. We do not collect any category of health data, or use it for any purpose, that is not on this page; if that ever changes, we will tell you first and ask for your consent before collecting it.
Who it is shared with
We do not sell consumer health data and we do not share it with anyone for their own use. It is stored for us by Google Firebase on servers in the United States, under terms that let Google process it only on our instructions. That is the only company that handles it. It is not sent to Apple, to RevenueCat, to analytics or crash-reporting tools, or to advertisers. Within the app, the people in your family who share the plan can see each other's allergies and diets, because that is how the plan works. We would disclose it to someone else only if the law required it or to protect a person's safety.
Your rights
You can:
- See it. Open the Family tab and tap a person. Everything we hold about what they eat is there. You can also ask us to confirm what we collect and who we have shared it with (nobody, other than Google as our processor).
- Change or remove it. Edit or clear any allergy or diet on the person's profile, or remove the person from the family.
- Withdraw consent. Clearing an allergy or diet, removing a profile, or deleting your data is how you withdraw consent. There is nothing further to do.
- Delete it everywhere. In the app, Family → Delete my data deletes your whole family, including every allergy and diet, immediately. We do not currently keep separate backups of family data; if we add them, deleted data leaves them within six months at most. Google, as our processor, deletes it on the same schedule. The Delete my data page explains the steps.
To make a request you cannot do in the app, write to privacy@supperowl.com. We answer within 45 days and will tell you if we need up to 45 more. Families in Supper Owl are anonymous, so we will ask you to write from the phone or Apple ID that owns the family, or to confirm the request from inside the app; if we cannot verify that the family is yours, we will not be able to act on the request and will tell you so. If we decline a request, we will explain why in writing. You can appeal by replying to that email with "Appeal" in the subject; we will answer the appeal within 45 days, and if we still decline, we will tell you how to contact your state attorney general.
Children
A parent or guardian enters a child's allergies and diets and can change or delete them at any time. A child does not use the app directly in this version.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, the date at the top moves and we show a notice in the app or on this site before the change takes effect. Questions: privacy@supperowl.com. Supper Owl is made and sold by Natallia Slaushchyk, Ontario, Canada. This policy is available in English and in French; both versions have the same content.
